Narayana Bali Pooja is a ritual described in Garuda Purana which is performed in all cases of unnatural death of a family member. Death can be caused by various reasons such as suicide, murder, starvation, accident, animals, arson, curse, drowning, and unusual diseases which cause untimely death.
Narayana Bali Pooja consists of sacred Vedic rituals to grant peace and liberation (Moksha) to the souls of departed ancestors. Experienced Vedic Brahmin priests in Gokarna, deeply learned in the Garuda Purana traditions and ancestral rites, conduct these ceremonies at the holy Kotiteertha and Mahabaleshwar Temple precincts.
Five sacred Kalasha offerings are made to Lord Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Yama, and the departed soul (Preta). A symbolic Pratima (form made of wheat dough) is consecrated with Vedic mantras to invoke the departed soul, followed by Dash Pind Pradhan, Tila Homa, and prayers for their peaceful transcendence to the ancestral realm (Pitru Loka).
